Our Research
NOVA Ocean adopts a multi and interdisciplinary approach that seeks a closer relationship with other organic units of the University and national and international entities dedicated to the study of the Ocean.
The centre aims to affirm itself as a key asset in the field as well as in the service to the community.

Main Research Areas
The main research areas range from ocean governance, law of the sea & maritime law, blue economy and sustainability. Within these fields, the NOVA OCEAN Knowledge Centre seeks to develop projects relevant to the current national and international scientific challenges.
All the interested researchers in the field of the Ocean are welcome to join or propose projects that they consider relevant for the scientific community.

PEARL Project
The project aims to monitorize to portuguese law regarding the maritime spatial planning and conflict of uses. It conveys the climate-ocean link; food security and management of maritime space.

Portuguese Blue Biobank Project
The project aims to build a Portuguese blue biobank serving as a sustainable basis for the development of differentiated and innovative biotechnology. NOVA OCEAN contributes in the development of public policies.

Lisbon Cruises Project
Research focused on the analyses of the cruises in Lisbon. Especially the impacts on the city conveying pollution, ambience and sound.
